Electroliquid Aggregation

Florence Nightingale and Stephen Hawking's quotes joined together to form electroliquid aggregation.

"No Man of science should be devoted and obedient. A nurse cannot answer the questions of why there should be a universe. Not even a doctor gives a definition to describe the usual approach of constructing a mathematical model."

EXPERIMENT 2:

Quotes describing an idea from each of the clients:

Jane Goodall:

"Jane Goodall is famous for studying chimpanzees in Africa and as an advocate for the environment."

'Chimps are more like us than we think: Goodall', Sydney Morning Herald, 14 April, 2007, p.22

Florence Nightingale:

"No man, not even a doctor, ever gives any other definition of what a nurse should be than this -- 'devoted and obedient'. This definition would do just as well for a porter. It might even do for a horse."

Stephen Hawking:

"The usual approach of science of constructing a mathematical model cannot answer the questions of why there should be a universe for the model to describe."

Final Version of Google SketchUp Model

2D Sections

2D Sections of my Google SketchUp Model:

Materials Used within my SketchUp Model

There are a variety of materials used within my SketchUp model.

Design Studio 1:
The main material used is a tan cladding for the exterior of the building. Timber was used for the flooring and stair case, while the interior was painted an ivory colour. Several pieces of translucent glass are used for a guard rail on the top floor and a large view window overlooking the rest of the building.

Design Studio 2:
The main material used for the exterior of this part of the structure is concrete. This studio is below ground, with numerous stairs leading to the exhibition space. Each stair is a transparent cylinder with a solid base, protruding out from the floor, surrounded by a blue/purple tile pattern. The stairs rise to the exterior level of the exhibition space.

Exhibition Space:
There are 2 levels of the exhibition space; one which is apart of the same building as design studio 1 and the other which is outside. The interior part shares the same materials as design studio 1; cladding for the exterior, timber flooring, ivory painted walls. The other level of the exhibition space has 2 entrances; from the interior section and behind the structure itself outside. Each set of stairs leading to the exterior space is constructed from concrete paver blocks, as is the flooring. A sheet of translucent glass covered the exterior space from the front.

A bit about Patricia Piccinini and Ricky Swallow's Artworks

Piccinini

Patricia Piccinini's Cyclepup-Mistral, 2005, represents 'ambivalent hybrids' (Allyn Cantor, 2007), indicating the biotechnical developments and their interaction with the natural environment. She explores this concept through inanimate machines, blurring the boundary between animals and machines. Piccinini fantisises through their biomorphic design; minature scale, rounded shape, large eyes and heads. These mechanical creatures are made of fibreglass, automotive paint, leather and stainless steel. The Cyclepups acquire features of car culture; polished chrome features, slick surfaces, custom designed glossy paints, flamboyant flame patterns and dyed leather upholstery. This artwork takes on an imaginative nature, fulfilling an individuals desires.

Swallow

Ricky Swallow's 'Peugeot Taipan, Commemorative Model', 1999 is also an inanimate, nostalgic, obsolete, recognisable object, perceived in a 1:1 scale, making it a life-like and realistic. Swallow has captured a moment in time; he freezes time, by creating a replica of a BMX bike, denying it its function and purpose. Swallow used PVC piping, PVC (plastic) sheeting, milliput and airbrushed stone white automotive paint in the reconstruction of this model. He built each piece separately and attached them altogether at the end. The tyres were hand cut and pieced on last - they also move, which contributes to the realistic nature of the artwork.
